GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES OF NEWTOWN, CT

 
Health Tips for the Newtown Experience
 
PLEASE READ BELOW AND WATCH THIS VIDEO
 
 
In light of the recent tragedy it would be remiss of me not to mention the many lives lost and families affected by the recent events that have demonstrated the lack of love in our society.
 
Love is a loaded word.  We express love in so many different ways.  Expressions of love come in different packages like the foods we eat, the way we nurture ourselves and our bodies and how we express love to close friends, family and perfect strangers.  Young Mr. Lanza did not love, felt no love and in the absence of Love their is a violent rage that can take a young mind and create a devil's workshop.  How can you forgive and appreciate and receive the blessing from such enormous sacrifice?
 
You may wonder how the word blessing can even be mentioned in light of such a huge loss.  You may wonder why I chose to talk about love and forgiveness.  The blessing in all of this is insurmountable faith building, more hearts turned to God when all hope is lost and relationships being changed for a lifetime.

When tragedy strikes a small town how can we "move on" (to me even those two words are harsh)?  Well, we have a choice to move on or continue to live.  You can continue on in bitterness and strife or in forgiveness and anticipation of life more abundantly.  Did you know you had a choice?  When these things happen I am able to lean, rely and depend on the One who made me.  Without my relationship with God, I'd be lost, stripped of hope.  Young Lanza had no hope.  God has already recorded how the world would be in the last days and every event is confirmation of it.  I can lean on God's truth's and be encouraged to live as a servant, obedient to his commands, always praying for those who need prayer and cannot pray for themselves.  Because of my relationship with God I know that Evil rules the world but God and his Love will reign supreme in the end.  Because of my faith, I know that those who lost loved ones and know God will be okay as they allow God & the Holy Spirit to comfort them.  Because of my faith, I know that I have so much work to do to lead others to Christ.  Because of my faith I can forgive Young Lanza and his family for being unconscious to the possibilities of what had been brewing in his heart.  Because of my faith, Young Lanza and his family I understand, needed to know the Love of God.

So, I forgive him, so that I can be forgiven!  I ask that God help me to Love more and use me as a vessel to share His Love with those that need it most.  Prayer is just talking to God, like he is your friend and according to His will he will answer.  If you are in need of comfort and you have never been told before, I want you to know that God loves you more than anyone on Earth could ever love you.  Life won't be perfect and we will go through some very rough times.  But God knows, He sees and He is Love.  Because He created Love, He does it best.  Forgive evil doers, guard your heart and begin a relationship with God so that you can experience a comfort that no man on earth could ever provide. 

To my Connecticut family.  God is with you, allow his mercy, grace and never ending spiritual power to embrace you.  Let fear go, be bold in knowing God is God. 

Here is the Lesson:  We all have something called "will" - it's our will to do or not to do.  Believing in God is a choice, doing good is a choice as well as doing evil.  We all have the right to choose at every moment of each day.  If we do not believe in a power greater than ourselves that will hold us accountable when it has all been said and done we will be more  apt to do unthinkable acts as if we are making a huge statement without any repercussions.  Believe me Adam is getting his, if only someone had shared the Love of Christ with him.  His soul will forever be tormented.  If you do believe in God, not the sun or the universe, then you know you have a purpose to do GOD'S will and HIS will is not to do evil, but good! 

Enough said, I pray that this has been a blessing to those that read it. 

JESUS I GIVE MY LIFE TO YOU, CONTINUE TO USE IT!

DANDELION ROOT COFFEE: BETTER THAN TEA & COFFEE

DANDELIONS ARE GREAT FOR STABILIZING YOUR BLOOD SUGAR AND EVEN REVERSING DIABETES AND LIVER DISEASE.  THEY ARE ALSO BENEFICIAL FOR WEIGHT LOSS.

Dandelion Root Coffee
The roasted roots are largely used to form Dandelion Coffee, being first thoroughly cleaned, then dried by artificial heat, and slightly roasted till they are the tint of coffee, when they are ground ready for use. The roots are taken up in the autumn, being then most fitted for this purpose. The prepared powder is said to be almost indistinguishable from real coffee, and is claimed to be an improvement to inferior coffee, which is often an adulterated product. Of late years, Dandelion Coffee has come more into use in this country, being obtainable at most vegetarian restaurants and stores. Formerly it used occasionally to be given for medicinal purposes, generally mixed with true coffee to give it a better flavor. The ground root was sometimes mixed with chocolate for a similar purpose. Dandelion Coffee is a natural beverage without any of the injurious effects that ordinary tea and coffee have on the nerves and digestive organs. It exercises a stimulating influence over the whole system, helping the liver and kidneys to do their work and keeping the bowels in a healthy condition, so that it offers great advantages to dyspeptics and does not cause wakefulness. 

If you want a hot beverage simply make dandelion coffee. Dandelion coffee is made from the root of the plant. Gather your roots in the fall or in the early spring before the plant blooms. Scrub the unpeeled roots with a stiff brush. Use the big part of the root for a vegetable. It's the skinny side roots that you need to dry, grind, and roast for you brew. Simply dry the roots in an oven (150 degrees) until they are brittle and snap easily. Then roast them at about 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until they are dark brown inside. Now grind them in the blender until they look like coffee. For a steaming cup of dandelion coffee use about one teaspoon of ground root to a cup of boiling water. This brew will have a flavor all it’s own, vaguely chocolaty and pleasing.

Delicious Cashew Cream

3 cups cashews
2-3 cups coconut water
1-2 tbsp Vanilla extract
pinch of sea salt

Blend in Vitamix until smooth.  Enjoy with fruit as a dip, make a parfait as pictured or freeze for a delicious ice cream.

Daisy made hummus out of chickpeas that we soaked and put a dallop on carrot slices and kale pieces.  She is so creative when she is wearing her raw chef hat!  Happy Birthday little lady, I am so proud of you!  Daisy loves to dance, play the violin, do her hair, hang out with friends, play with her brother and cousins, she is a foodie and very compassionate and caring.

Fabulous Dessert Recipes

Macaroons

3 c coconut, shredded
1 1/2 cup cacao or carob powder
1 cup Honey (not vegan), Yukon, Date or Maple Syrup (not raw)
1/3 cup coconut butter
2 T vanilla or vanilla bean powder
1/2 t sea salt

Mix ingredients well, dehydrate until dry or freeze until firm.





Chocolate Almond Butter Cups


1 cup of Cacao or Carob
1 cup of Honey (not vegan), Yukon, Date or Maple Syrup (not raw)
1/4 cup Coconut Oil
pinch of sea salt


Blend in Vitamix until smooth and velvety.


To make cups:
Spread Almond butter on parchment paper in a pie dish or on a cookie sheet.  Place chocolate on top and freeze or place Almond butter in paper cups and chocolate on top and freeze.  Enjoy!


Cheesecake

For the Cheese cake recipe go to Christmas recipes.


For a larger serving use
3 cups cashews
3-6 lemons depending on size
1/4 cup coconut butter
1 cup sweetener

Place crust in pie dish and spread cheeze evenly and freeze until firm and enjoy.  I keep it in the freezer it will keep for a week.

2. Learn to make your own Healthy Substitutions!!!

Dairy is hidden in the Three States of Matter:

1. Solid-cheese, crackers, bread, butter, cereal, chips, noodles, spreads, batters, snack bars, puddings, all desserts, all prepared foods
2. Liquid-Milk, coffee drinks, smoothies, yogurts, baby formulas, tea
3. Gas- your gas, your family members, your animals, "geez-o-peeks", say excuse me somebody! Dairy must be eliminated!

Now, where do you get your milk and cheese from? Keep reading.....

Here are some healthy substitutions:
1. Make nut or seed based "mylks."
2. Nut allergy? Try guacamole for cheese or sour cream.
3. Try nut based "cheeze."
4. Make nut or seed based yogurts.
5. Make nut based sweet or savory creams, spreads or sauces.

One of the first things I help my clients to learn to do is substitute unhealthy options with healthy ones.

DELICIOUS RECIPE

PARMESAN "CHEEZE"

1 CUP BRAZIL NUTS
1/4 TSP SEA SALT

PROCESS IN FOOD PROCESSOR UNTIL CRUMBLY AND SPRINKLE OVER YOUR SALADS, PASTA DISHES AND SANDWICHES.

*BRAZIL NUTS ARE HIGH IN SELENIUM, EAT 3 PER DAY.  SELENIUM INCREASES THYROID HORMONE METABOLISM, REDUCES THE RISK OF HEART DISEASE, INFERTILITY AND CANCER.

BLEND IN VITAMIX AND ENJOY!!!!

COLESLAW

1 JICAMA, CUBED
1 RED ONION, DICED
1 CUP CELERY, CHOPPED
1 CUP GREEN BELL PEPPER, CHOPPED

SAUCE:
1/2-1 CUP WATER OR COCONUT WATER, AS NEEDED
2 CUPS WHITE NUTS
1/2 CUP ORGANIC STONE GROUND MUSTARD
1 TSP SEA SALT
1/2 TSP BLACK PEPPER
1/4 LEMON JUICE
GARNISH WITH PAPRIKA

CHOP VEGETABLES, POUR SAUCE OVER AND ENJOY!


MEATBALLS

2 CUPS WALNUTS
1 LARGE PORTABELLA MUSHROOM
1/4 ONION
1 TBSP ONION POWDER
2 TBSP FENNEL SEEDS
1 TSP SEA SALT
2 TBSP COCONUT AMINOS, BRAGG OR NAMA SHOYU OR MISO
*OPTIONAL CAN ADD MORE SEA SALT IF NEEDED

PROCESS IN FOOD PROCESSOR UNTIL MEAT TEXTURE, FORM INTO BALLS, DEHYDRATE UNTIL READY TO EAT AND ADD YOUR SAUCE WHEN SERVING.

SAUCE:
1 CUP SUNDRIED TOMATOES
1 LEMON JUICES OR 2 TBSP APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
1-2 DATES

BLEND IN VITAMIX UNTIL SMOOTH OR A TAD CHUNKY.  ENJOY!

A Raw Beegan Defined.......

I consider myself a raw beegan (honey) this means that over the last 5 years now I've consumed 95% raw fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables, legumes, sprouted grains and grasses.

5% of my diet would include some nuts that are not raw and unprocessed, some maple syrup rarely, condiments like Tamari, Olive Oil, honey, Nutritional Yeast, Olives and Agave.

I have totally enjoyed and prospered on the raw beegan diet. My skin is radiant, my size is perfect, my energy surpasses my teenagers and I feel simple amazing every day!

Simply warming vegetables for two minutes is a great way to eat your vegetables as close to raw as possible.

MARCH ON WITH HEALTH & WELLNESS



CAFE GRATITUDE, LOS ANGELES

When I travel I always find Whole Foods and Raw Food restaurants in the area. My plan was to hop off the plane, get the rental and go to Cafe Gratitude and stuff my face. After only green drink, fruit and water on the plane for over 4 hours I was ready to eat.

One of my favorite raw food restaurants in the land! This was a Key Lime Pie with Ice cream and caramel sauce. I always enjoy being served raw food, especially raw desserts. I also ordered a Kale Salad and their Mediterranean Plate.



After leaving the restaurant, I headed straight for the Hollywood sign, no GPS needed. Low and behold, after driving through a beautiful neighborhood I ended up at Sunset Ranch in Griffith Park. There were mountains and hiking trails and of course the Hollywood sign. I could not believe it, I had made it! Sunset Ranch offered horseback riding and that was added to our schedule for the following day. We hiked up one mountain and that is where this picture was taken with the Hollywood sign. My travel buddy had never been horseback riding before but she never second guessed her involvement.

This breakfast burrito or crepe was just okay, it photographed well. I have eaten all raw for over 4 years, I know good raw food. The crepe was too thin, like a thin flax chip. The coconut yogurt was sour and bad tasting. The huge chunks of apples inside took away from the delicate nature that a crepe should have. I could totally make this 100% better. Crepes should be soft and gooey. I also had their "oatmeal" (pecans and apples chopped very small in coconut or almond milk, basically a bowl of nuts, not good either. Needless to say, my breakfast on day 2 at Cafe Gratitude was not very satisfying. Food must be beautiful and taste amazing!


In case you did not know, I love horses and riding! The horse is Tracer, with a white diamond just like I like them. I rode up and down the mountain cliffs of Griffith Park. The scenery was amazing! The valley's, mountains, birds, dog, our tour guides and the other tourist made this part of my vacation marvelous! While horseback riding, I actually met a lady and her daughter from my home town of Detroit, Michigan, that was amazing! I could do without the helmet but I followed orders.


Santa Monica Beach is absolutely beautiful, the water however was freezing! So, just toe time for me. I always collect at least one shell from the beaches I have the opportunity to visit. I found some amazing pieces.

What a lovely beach. I even video taped the bugs, ugh! I drove along the coast about 9 miles into Malibu!

I thought I'd share a little about my vacation and opportunity to speak in front of 5000! I was honored to have been apart of the World's largest nutrition schools Mega Conference in Long Beach, CA over the weekend.

Here is what I learned about myself: I pack to much, it makes my trip more work than it has to be, I definitely had plenty of choices wardrobe wise but in the end it didn't matter because I could not see them all at once, my suitcase was so packed. My travel buddy brought 2 carry ons for a 5 day trip.

I bought a ton of raw vegan food, for my research of course! I did not eat it all at once, but as a raw vegan chef it's important for me to taste and see what others are doing in their raw food kitchens. I visited 5 different raw vegan restaurants in LA.

I really want to move to a warmer climate. I'm not the 4 seasons type anymore. I'm craving year round farmers markets and warm weather something awful.

Hubby update: He successfully juiced for 30 days. He is now back to eating a regular diet and about 75% raw or vegan.

One of my greatest missions in life is to help as many people as possible achieve their mental, physical and emotional health goals. I would love to work with you and for you to share my message with anyone you know.

What is Nutritional Yeast?

The Health Benefits of Nutritional Yeast

Nutritional Yeast is a powerhouse of nutrients and I believe is a great addition to a healthy lifestyle, especially for those who are vegan or vegetarian. It is one of the few non-animal sources of B-12, is rich in folic acid and many other nutrients and amino acids. This is not your typical yeast and is free of the Candida Albicans strain, making it safe for those concerned with candida.

Nutritional Yeast is very rich in B vitamins, including B12, which is what gives it that yellow color. One serving of nutritional yeast, about ½-1 Tbsp, provides the full amount of B12 needed for an adult in day, not bad. It is a great source of 18 amino acids, protein, folic acid, biotin and other vitamins. It is also rich in 15 minerals including iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and chromium, and selenium.

It is grown on beet sugar and molasses, fermented and dried so it is gluten free and non-yeast forming in the body. Most companies dry it at a high heat so it is not a raw food. There might be a couple of companies who sell it raw but I am not aware of them. My understanding is that the yeast needs to be heated so that it is not live and active in the body, causing any yeast production in the GI tract. So for raw foodists it might be a cooked ingredient that is an exception.

I highly recommend it for babies/toddlers who are not nursing and using formula. The addition of nutritional yeast would be wise and very beneficial for your growing infant and toddler. If you are giving goat’s milk to your baby, toddlers and kids, nutritional yeast would be an important addition because goat milk is low in B12, iron and folic acid, while the yeast provides good amounts of those nutrients.

Nutritional Yeast over air popped popcorn is delicious as well. Another great way to feed it to your kids and family is to sprinkle it into a smoothie or over toast, into dishes such as soup, quinoa, stir fry, dressings, sauces, pates, etc. It adds a delicious cheesy and nutty taste and adds so much flavor and creaminess.

You can buy it in the bulk section at Whole Foods and various health food stores or try brands such as Red Star, Health Best, and now Bragg Brand as well.

New Year, New You, New Food, New Attitude, New Energy

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year! Things are a moving already this year! January is packed with classes and speaking engagements. Thank you for being such a loyal follower. I'm working on a new website, completing my raw recipe book, videos, blogs and making up new raw vegan recipes daily. Here is what I have planned to do this year.

*I am still teaching raw vegan food prep at The Common Market in Frederick, MD
*I am still coaching individual clients in achieving optimal health and wellness.
*I will continue to teach Zumba classes.
*I will continue to feed patrons of NY & NJ with raw vegan delights at Organico Grocery & Cafe in Ramsey, NJ.
*I will continue to eat 100% raw vegan to maintain my health, energy and vibrance.
*I will begin posting videos and more recipes as well.
